Daily Journal - Sept 7, 2014

Sammy learned to shrug his shoulders to say "I don't know"

Phoebe got a 18 inch two wheeler bike with training wheels - after watching her try to keep up with Lily all summer and seeing her knees get farther past her handle bars, it was just time.

Titus got a two wheeler with training wheels (12 inches) because he was so stinkin' cute in the store riding it around and was ready for one about a month ago but I wasn't ready to believe that he was growing bigger.

A few days ago, Titus started being able to dress himself including changing his own pull-ups; Phoebe started kindergarten; Sammy did a perfect summersault.

I've started losing my vision and getting migraines more often - the first day of school included.  I was watching a hummingbird out the back door and when I turned to look back into the room, the sunspots turned into migraine starter spots which grew until my vision was gone.  Should probably start keeping track of when they are coming and what triggers them.  So far, dust, light, and if the neighborhood open lots get mowed...

I am doing a farming theme this week for the boys in preschool.  Farm books, farm puzzles, farm noise toys, farm sensory bin, farm printables (cutting, pasting, painting, coloring, etc.)... I'm trying a new idea - one theme for the whole week, as opposed to last week which was a different "theme-ish" each day... meaning each bin was completely different from the next.  (Each day has a new bin that I put together on Sundays for the 5 school days coming up that week.)

I'm really enjoying Literature so far this year with Lily - it's fun to see her binder grow each day as we read Sarah, Plain and Tall together.  The next book is Anne of Green Gables.  Then we are going to do The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

This coming week in art, we are studying VanGogh.  We did his sunflower paintings last year, but now with Phoebe joining us, I'm going to review his biography and then we'll do another of his paintings.

Our morning schedule is working so far: get up at 7am... everyone gets dressed, and gets their spaces cleaned up and ready for the day - it's kind of a no-rush 30 minutes until breakfast starts at 7:30.  There isn't anything scheduled then until 8:10.  During that 40 minutes, everyone eats breakfast and Lily works on spelling with Phil.  Lily unloads the dishwasher and Phoebe makes sure the table is cleared and washed.  Both girls are doing really well with their morning chores so far.  The whole family meets upstairs (in the preschool room) for Quiet Time.  Phil works with Phoebe in her Quiet Time book.  The boys color a quiet time sheet and spend a minute praying and then play quietly.  Lily and I have separate Quiet Time books that we work from and spend time praying.  At 8:30, Phil leaves for work, which means everyone waves and then we fill up water bottles, brush teeth and start school.
